History of labour day

In this September 7, when people celebrate Labour Day, want to know why? To honor the contribution of the workers and for their fair rights. Workers faced conditions where they worked continuously for hours, and in 1886, USA workers did the big strike, and their demand was to work 8 to 9 hours a day. And this 8-hour concept started after nationwide strikes in the United States. Thousands of workers resigned or left their jobs for the demand to work 8 hours a day, and the most disheartened scene was in Chicago when police opened fire on the striking workers and started killing them. And many other incidents happened, like a bomb thrown at the police in Chicago Haymarket that caused firing and many deaths, and the whole US cried for labour rights.

The Eight-Hour Workday: A Turning Point for Workers’ Rights

And the turning point was when an International Workingmen’s Association adopted their demands, and this was the first association, and their active years were between 1864–1876. This is also called the Eight-Hour Day Movement, also called the 40-Hour Week Movement.

Wondering? how Labour Day changed the modern workplace by working 8 hours a day, safe conditions, fair wages, stemming from the 1886 Chicago labor movements. What benefits were seen when 8 hours of working were legally accepted? The boundaries are set up, and there is time between personal life. The mental health of labour has seen so much change.

The True Meaning of Labour Day

Want to know why we celebrate Labour Day? It is a day to honor the hard work, dedication, and struggles of workers who fought for fair working conditions, better rights, and the eight-hour workday we know today.

The origin of this started from there. In short, so many lives have gone in the strikes, and the labour demands are adopted legally.
